Napa: Winter 2012

It’s always fun to make a trip to Yountville for wine and food!  This time, I revisited Bouchon Bakery, tried a new restaurant Reddwood, and more wine tasting!

Bouchon Bakery:Bouchon Bakery is well known for their macarons — and occasionally they have special seasonal flavors.

This time around they were coconut and gingerbread macarons — both true to their taste, but slightly too plain.

And a new discovery — chocolate covered macarons called “O no you didn’t!”  Funny…

and following the holiday season, these chocolate logs are “Oh Oh!”

Sadly, their “Lemon Tarts” were only average.

Here’s an inside look into the “O no you didn’t!”  I didn’t like it that much because the chocolate makes the shells crunchy instead of chewy.

Wine tasting: We stopped by Beaulieu Vineyard, and V. Sattui for wine tasting, then to Bistro Jeanty for their tomato soup.

Hungry Cactus’ Verdict: B+

Even though it was raining the whole time we were in Napa, we were still able to visit a lot of places!  I was hoping to find more interesting macaron flavors at Bouchon Bakery, but that’s how it is.  Reddwood was decent, but would have preferred to eat something more interesting while in Yountville — pizzas just don’t spark in me somehow.  As for wine tasting, V. Sattui had the most selections, and the server was fun and laid back.

Overall a very fun trip…but next time, let’s go on a sunny day! =)
